n 1980, the South Lansing Business Association, (SLBA), was organized as a civic organization for the betterment of the city of Lansing with an emphasis on the south Lansing area. Our members are from all walks of life, including small business owners, community leaders, bankers, lawyers, and industry officials. Members of the SLBA most importantly, share a common interest in Lansing's south side. SLBA has been involved with a number of important issues such as, improvements to Cedar Street, business district clean-ups, and sign ordinance legislation. The SLBA knows the importance of good communication between government and private enterprise, and works to ensure those lines are always open.This is a conversation between SLBA Board member, Ashley Barbeau, and Justin Caine of Good Fruit Video:
1. Why did you choose your current location to do business in South Lansing?: We've had two locations on the south side. The first location was in REO Town. It was our second location, after leaving the Technology Innovation Center in East Lansing. We were attracted to it, as it seemed like an up and coming space. We were correct. Businesses started popping up all around us and it was pretty cool. We were out growing that space and looking for a new place, when we did some video work with Rycus Flooring. We noticed they had some extra space available for lease and jumped at the opportunity for a larger space with more of a storefront feel. Though we are not retail, we share the space with Advanced MultiMedia and they benefit from the location and we benefit from their clients who sometimes needing video work.
2. Do you have any special memories of doing business in the Southside of Lansing? As our last two locations have both been in South Lansing, we have a lot of fond memories. Everyday in South Lansing has been a joy.
3. What services do you offer that our member can benefit from? Video is the best way to quickly and effectively share information with potential clients and customers.
